How to set up a home gym in a small flat

FORMA Team · 5 min de lectura

You don't need a spare room to train properly at home. With a clear two-square-metre corner and a few well-chosen pieces of equipment, you can cover strength, cardio and mobility — and put everything away in five minutes.

Start with the floor

Measure the space you can clear every day, not the space you could clear in theory. For most people that's about 2 × 1 metres: enough to lie down, lunge and swing a kettlebell. Cover it with rubber floor tiles — they protect the floor, reduce noise for neighbours and mark out 'the gym' in your head.

Choose equipment that stores away

In a small flat, adjustable beats fixed. A pair of adjustable dumbbells replaces a full rack, an adjustable kettlebell replaces seven bells, and a walking pad slides under the sofa.

  • Strength: adjustable dumbbells or a kettlebell
  • Cardio: a walking pad or a compact rower
  • Mobility: a foam roller and a Pilates bar
  • Floor: four to ten rubber tiles

Make it easy to start

Keep the equipment where you can see it. The less you have to unpack, the more often you'll train. A ten-minute session you actually do beats an hour you keep postponing.

These are general training tips. If you're new to exercise or have a health condition, check with your doctor first. Product details are on each product page.
